Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people buy custom "heirloom" furniture when it is so cheap in the stores?

Many people do view their furniture as a "consumer" item. That is, they plan on using a piece of furniture for a few months or years and then replacing it. This furniture is indeed cheap and plentiful. It is usually made in China or some other foreign country and utilizes nearly all man-made materials such as plywood, MDF, or particle board. This material uses simple screws or "knock-down" fasteners to hold the furniture together. The finishes are usually painted or some form of artificial "veneer." The life of this furniture is usually limited to no more than one move - it simply will not survive the rigors of moving. (In fact, did you know that many moving companies will not ensure furniture of this kind - it is too likely to fall apart in a move).

More and more people recognize that replacing furniture every few years is not cheap. Further, cheap furniture soon ends up in a landfill further damaging the environment. Quality, value, endurance and long-lasting style are characteristic of heirloom furniture. It is really a values and lifestyle choice.

What's New?

Our newest project is a recreation of a Victorian era baby cradle. The cradle is true to the original except the design has been modified to fit a modern baby cradle mattress size and to meet the Consumer Product safety requirements for baby cradles.
